Some New Year Stuff....

We spent New Year's weekend  in Florida.  We visited Mike and Amber, my sister and also Rick and Christie.  Rick & Christie have a new baby boy.  Trey.  Before I get ahead of myself I wanted to share with you some of my goals for 2011.

I have joined the Siesta Scripture Memory Team  It is Beth Moore's challenge that we memorize two verses a month.  I have also decided to join in with Ann Voskamp and memorize two verses per week of Colossians. Just two verses and by the end of the year the whole book is memorized.

I have my reading list too.....

need to finish a couple chapters of  "I will Carry You," by Angie Smith that I didn't finish in 2010. Excellent book, heart wrenching but such an amazing testimony of God.

2011 Reading List

One Thosand Gifts by Ann Voskamp  (released THIS month!)
Choosing to SEE by MaryBeth Chapman
Too Small to Ignore by Wess Stafford
Hope Lives by Amber Von Schooneveld

I may add a few more.  I want to read Vicki Courtney's book when it comes out... about Conversations with Boys.  I finished  5 Conversations You Should Have with Your Daughter this past year and it was a great read.

My #1 read for 2010 was/is Radical by David Platt.  It is a must read for everyone.  Life changing to me. Totally changed the way I view things....  changing my vision.

Last year my goal was 10 books for the year.  I didn't make it.  It was more like 4. It is ok.  I am not in it to win or to race.  Just to read.  I love to read just do not have lots of extra time.

Will share more about our trip and other stuff.....  in the next few days.

What's on your reading list for 2011?

Been a couple rough days here.  Would appreciate your prayers. Just when I share how God is giving me grace to walk this journey and I feel a spring in my step....   I fall on my face.  His grace is sufficient and your prayers are appreciated more than you know.

Thanks for stopping in....  would love to hear from you.

  1. Praying for you Teena....

I am doing scripture memory this year, too. I had come up with the idea on my own (well, I'm sure God put the idea in my head). Then a friend sent me the Siesta scripture memory cards as a gift. Then another friend told me about Beth's idea for the siestas memorizing scripture! So I officially signed up. I thought it was cool that I was already going to do it. I'm thinking about doing the Colossians thing, too....still thinking about that!

I read a lot and the first 3 books on my list for 2011 are Unshaken by Dan Woolley (Compassion Employeed that survived the Haiti earthquake), The Divine Mentor by Wayne Cordeilo and Homeschooling wiht a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell. I posted about them so you can read more on my blog.

I've already finished Unshaken and I'm more than half done with The Divine Mentor!

I have ordered One Thousand Gifts and hope it comes tomorrow. I read Vicki Courtney's Conversations book (the girl one) this pat year. I also read Radical - very good! Have you read Crazy Love or Forgotten God by Francis Chan? Both are excellent books - similar to Radical. Hole in the Gospel is another good book!

  2. Yay for our joint scripture memory efforts. We'll have to pray for one another.

I can't wait to get Ann's book; I preordered it months ago!

I am also re-reading Radical because we are just beginning to study it with our Wednesday night adult group. I am so excited to finally get to go through it with my church family.

And I want to read Vicki Courtney's book, too.

I also plan to read Generous Justice by Timothy Keller, and Slave by John MacArthur.

I'm sure others will come along, but that's a lot to start with!

  3. I also say my goals...rather than New Years resolution.
Good for you with all the memorizing. That is a great list of books too. I think I will read Mary Beth Chapman's book. God be with you on this journey.

I'm doing Beth Moore's memory challenge too (I did it last time as well). I am really impressed that you are doing two!! You will be doubly blessed.

  6. I just posted some of my reading list from 2010. My "to read" is always huge, but I really want to try to re-read "Mere Christianity" and read the Bonhoffer biography this year.

  10. Thanks for stopping by my blog...

Radical was such a challenging book!

Another one that I read in 2010 that was really good was Spiritual Warfare by Jerry Rankin.

Thanks for posting the Compassion children - I hope they are ALL sponsored very soon!
